OVERVIEW OF PROJECT
"Swimming in a Lake of Fire" ("Lake of Fire" for short) is a
feature film now in pre-production with a shoot start date of Nov.
2, 2009. The movie is being produced by Michael Vadini Productions
and Highway 29, and will be made in the Greensboro area. A
micro-budget movie, "Lake of Fire" has a small, undisclosed budget
sufficient to complete the picture with the help of actors and crew
willing to share our vision and embrace the opportunity to work on
a local feature on a deferred or partially deferred payment basis.
The movie is from a screenplay by Les Butchart, who is also the
producer/director. Lucas Butchart is DP. The movie will be made
with the Canon 5d Mark II camera with Canon and Nikon lenses to
provide a high quality, hi-def, filmic look. The marketing path
will include a local premiere, festivals, and foreign sales.
OUR APPROACH TO PRODUCTION: Highway 29 produces in a very
streamlined, efficient way, so every crew person is enormously
important to the success of the project. We work hard, move fast,
and like to have a blast making movies.
AVAILABLE (PARTIALLY) PAID CREW POSITIONS: All primary
production positions are partially paid/partially deferred. We are
currently looking for:
Propmaster/Assistant Art Director/Production Designer:
Someone to coordinate the creation and/or sourcing of props, handle
set dressing and propping, coordinate production art, provide art
direction support, and wrangle production vehicles. This is a very
key position and an opportunity for someone to learn a great deal
and earn a significant feature credit. We hope we can provide some
volunteer help for this position. If you are interested in this
position,
please email Les Butchart by clicking here.
Costumer/Wardrobe Manager: Someone to create a few wardrobe
items and manage the wardrobe throughout the production, watch
wardrobe continuity, etc. This person will begin working
immediately with the director and DP to determine a wardrobe plan
for the entire film. If you are interested in this position,
please
email Les Butchart by clicking here.
OTHER CREW: We are also in need of several people in unpaid,
volunteer positions, including:
Location Scout/Manager: Currently, our greatest need is for
someone to help us find and secure locations, so, if you're willing
to jump in right away and help us with this,
please contact Les
Butchart by clicking here. You'll need a car and a knack for
location scouting.
Craft Services Manager: If you've ever worked on a movie,
you know how important this position is. We are already working on
a plan for craft services, the menu plan, etc., but we need someone
who wants to jump in and handle it on a daily basis, or a few
people who can handle the daily work for one week at a time. A
great opportunity to be close to the filmmaking action! If you are
interested in this position, please contact
Susan Butchart by
clicking here.
Assistant Producer/Director: Someone to help mostly with the
producing function but also with some directing-related things,
sort of a hybrid Assistant Director/Production Coordinator job. A
great learning opportunity. Unpaid. Does not require a full month's
commitment but at least one week. If you are interested in this
position,
please email Les Butchart by clicking here.
Production Assistants: Production Assistants ("PAs") work on
various aspects of the production, helping with craft services,
marking takes, helping the Production Coordinator, running errands,
assisting the director or soundman or grips. We like to give our
PAs a wide range of learning opportunites. We're hoping to find a
few PAs who can make at least a one-week commitment.
Grips: We need a couple of great grips for the duration of
the shoot, but we'll be glad to talk to you about working one or
two weeks instead of the full month.
THE PROCESS OF APPLYING FOR A CREW POSITION: If you are
interested in a PA or Grip position, please join this website and
then contact Les Butchart. We use the site to help us keep up with
folks. Plus, as a member of Movies Among Friends, you'll be the
first to know about new opportunities, and the first to receive
news about the progress of "Lake of Fire."
NOTE: If you absolutely cannot use the web process (as described
above) to audition, and, if you are convinced that you are a must
see, please email Lucas at
lucasbutchart@triad.rr.com by clicking here.
